Columbia Street West on The Landing is bolstering its long-running MOMS (Midwest Original Music Showcase) series on Tuesdays with national bands.

This Tuesday, rock with Epic recording artist Watershed and local band Basement What featuring Dave George on lead vocals, Nick Young on guitar, Lou Grant on drums and Pete Jacobs on bass. They play from 9 p.m. to around 2 a.m., $2 cover. "We're trying to keep the series fresh and exciting," said club owner John Freistroffer.

Jacobs, for one, believes it's a great idea. "Opening for a national band gives local bands more exposure and connections, and there's more for the audience to enjoy. We need MOMS. Most local bands have to play cover songs to get work. At a MOMS concert, it's a positive thing for people to come and hear our music."
